Whether you have a collection of wine already or you are just starting on it, the most important thing is that you are aware of how important wine storage is and that you make sure that you have the proper storage facilities for your wine. If wine is not stored properly, then it is going to spoil and you are not going to be able to enjoy a delicious glass of properly aged wine.

There are a few key things to remember when it comes to wine storage and how to keep your wine, and these are tips that are going to be very helpful for when you go to pick out a wine storage cabinet or other item to store your wine.

Store Wine Bottles on Their Side

One of the most important wine storage tips to remember is that you need to store the bottles of wine on their side. A lot of people would not realize this, especially if they were just new wine collectors, but this is one of the most major steps. When you keep a bottle of wine on its side, this ensures that there is always liquid on the cork, and thus the cork is kept moist and tight in the bottle.

When you do not store your wine like this, the cork can get end up getting too dry and actually cracking or splitting down the sides, and this would mean that oxygen would get into the bottle of wine, and it would be essentially ruined, especially if you did not notice it and drink it right away.

The whole purpose of the cork is to keep oxygen from getting into the bottle. Once you uncork a bottle of wine, you need to drink it within a few days to a week before it will be spoiled. This is why you need to be so careful with the way that you are storing the wine and make sure that you are doing it correctly.

Another important wine storage tip is to make sure that the temperature of the room in which you are keeping the bottles of wine is appropriate. If it is too warm or too cool then this is going to have a negative effect on the wine and you are going to notice this in the taste of the wine. Proper wine storage is very important if you want to be a real wine collector and keep the wine in the best condition.
